An important New Jersey road has been closed due to a sink for the second time in less than two months.

The teams are working to repair a sink on the east side of the 80s interest in Wharton. The lanes remain closed.

According to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT), the recently compromised road is 75 feet away from which the repairs of sinks were completed in December. The area where that sink was repaired is stable, Dot said.

The I-80 in the direction of this was closed last December 26 due to a sink and reopened on December 30 after repairs.

This Monday around 6:45 am, the workers saw a depression in the central lane. According to DOT, as workers were boring holes to investigate depression, the new sink was opened, making the area insecure for motorists.

“Emergency repairs are always dynamic situations, and conditions can change rapidly. When carrying out the road tests to determine the scope of the damage, the conditions worsened, ”said Dot Commissioner Fran O’Connor.

O’Connor said the teams are working 24 hours a day to complete the latest repairs and reopen the lanes.

Traffic is currently deviating at exit 34. However, drivers are recommended to take Route 46 in the east or route 10 in the east direction to avoid the area. This output is several miles before closing.
