Northbrook, Illinois, December 13, 2024-Nick Dawkins, three times academic winner All-Big Ten and winner of the Public Service Award of Penn State that founded the Dawkins Family Foundation to defend academic and athletic excellence for young students. The recipient of the Allstate Wuerffel trophy and the captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works team.
Dawkins began the Dawkins Family Foundation in 2022 to provide educational and enrichment opportunities for young people. The Foundation presents three scholarships to last year students of high school, including one in honor of Dawkins’ late father, Darryl Dawkins. The organization offers educational workshops and charitable event sponsors in the Lehight Valley region of Pennsylvania, where Dawkins attended Parkland High School.
“It’s about helping those who both inside and outside my team. Nothing has prevented me from chasing that dream, ”said Dawkins. “This honor underlines the importance of giving back, and I am grateful to Danny Wuerffel and the Wuerffel, Allstate and the AFC Foundation to celebrate those who serve to make a difference.”
Dawkins has given life to his passion in the YMCA of Center County, where he created summer sports camps, and in Penn State, where he leads edifying athletics to raise funds for a investigation of rare diseases. Beyond his public roles, Dawkins is a devout son and brother, providing unwavering support to his family, especially his sister with Down syndrome.

Celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year, the Allstate Wuerffel trophy represents the Premier College Football Award for Community Service, honoring the lasting impact of Danny Wuerffel’s inspiring service. The award is given to one of the 11 players of the NCAA Soccer Bowl subdivision (FBS) chosen for the Allsstate AFCA Good Works team that better combines community service, leadership and exemplary performance inside and outside the field. This milestone highlights two decades to recognize athletes who are having a significant impact on the field and beyond sport. Dawkins joins an elite fraternity of 19 previous trophy receptors, and hundreds of members of the Good Works team since its inception in 1992.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works team appoints 22 athletes students and a chief coach for an exemplary community service. This year’s Allstate AFCA Works was selected from a record of 178 nominees, representing players and coaches of schools and universities throughout the country for their unwavering commitment to community service and its “good works” outside the countryside.

Allstate AFCA Good Works team is selected by a voting panel of former members of the Allstate AFCA Good Works team, current and previous coaches in chief journalists who are looking for exceptional leadership inside and outside the football field.
The Allstate Wuerffel trophy and the Captain of the Good Works team of Allstate AFCA finalists and recipients are selected by a prestigious National Voting Committee, including a fan vote component.

About the Allstate AFCA Good Works team
The Allstate AFCA Good Works team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the additional efforts made by university football players and student support staff outside the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor university football players who make additional effort for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award from the 2008 season.
The Southeast Conference (SEC) leads all conferences with 89 selections to the Allstate AFCA Good Works team since it began in 1992. The SEC is followed by the Atlantic Coast Conference with 55 selections and the Minnesota Intercollegial Athletic Conference with 43 selections . Georgia is first with 24 honored to the Allstate AFCA Good Works team. Bulldogs are followed by Kentucky and Bethel (Minnesota) with 18 honored. The Super Bowl XLII, XLVI and XLI Marshals Champions of Campo Eli and Peyton Manning were members of the Good Works AFCA 2002 and 1997 teams, respectively.
