A Pittsburgh headquarters will pay a fine of $ 144,000 for erroneously classifying 192 workers in violation of the Pennsylvania Law.

The Penylvania Labor and Industry Department (L&I) announced that it has reached a liquidation agreement with Romero Remodeling Co. for violating the erroneous classification law of the Penylvania Construction workplace (Law 72).

The erroneous classification of workers occurs when an employer incorrectly classifies a worker as an independent contractor instead of an employee, depriving the worker of rights and benefits.

“The erroneous classification of workers undermines a worker to essential benefits such as unemployment and compensation of workers, while creating an unfair advantage for companies that avoid the labor laws of Pennsylvania,” said the secretary of L&I , Nancy A. Walker.
